Digital Fine Art Capture

Image capture is made by a professional commercial studio in Oxford, UK, in a purpose built studio specifically designed for high quality digital fine art reproduction. Using the latest in digital photographic techniques and technology the art work is digitally reproduced for archiving, print runs and publication.

By combining a large format camera with the latest in large 5 x 4 inch digital scan back systems from Betterlight , HID lighting and special filtration techniques the full colour and tonal range of the original work is faithfully reproduced ensuring colour accuracy and dimensions. High quality optics coupled with the scan backs super high resolution means even detail as subtle as brushstrokes will be captured with pin sharp definition whilst impasto qualities will still retain their original emphasis.

Proofing is carried out using iso compliant lighting with monitors matched to the capture camera and print equipment to ensure consistency from original art work to finished print throughout the whole process.

Fine quality pigment based inks of naturally occurring pigments are sprayed onto the chosen ground, either paper or canvass, using an Epson 48 inch 12 colour printer with 2880 DPI resolution. Natural pigment inks are more eco conscious than other dye or chemically produced colours and are of archival quality giving estimated life span of c100 years.

Product Materials

Prints on canvas use Swiss made Folex canvass of medium weight and weft and weave texture. They are coated with anti glare and water resistant glaze after printing to protect the finished product. Canvasses are stretched on FSC certified renewable resource softwood timber frames. *

Prints on paper are on Hannemuhle 300GSM acid free archive quality paper of medium texture. Framed with either black or off white bevel cut 1200micron Arqadia mount board and backed with 1.1mm archival quality barrier board, cellophane wrapped for protection. *

Posters are either standard A0 (841x594mm, 33x23inches) or A1(841x1189mm, 33x47inches) on standard 200GSM silk poster paper, with a semi gloss finish. Supplied in a tube. This product is non archival and uses standard commercial inks. Studio and gallery sales only.

* This applies to studio, gallery and UK web site sales. Overseas website sales are are of unmounted canvass or art paper rolled and sent in stout postal tube. This is to avoid damage during transit and reduce the cost to the purchaser of postage and tax. Any reputable framer will easily be able to set the art paper print in a mount or canvass to a stretcher suitable to your framing choice, and compatible with your home décor. Paper prints have a 10mm border to facilitate mounting, canvass prints will come with a 55mm plain border all round to facilitate mounting.

Image Sizes

The canvass print image size is as per the external dimensions given in the print price list. There may be some slight variation between different images because of justification. For unstretched canvass prints there is an additional 55mm border to facilitate box mount or standard mount stretchers witout diminishing the image size.

The paper print size includes the mount which forms a natural border and so the image size is correspondingly smaller than the external dimension.

Sizes are chosen to correspond with off the shelf frames from most major High street suppliers.
